How to do the Track Intervals
Track intervals are repeated short runs on a flat, measured surface such as a track, road, or path. They train your ability to run faster, recover, and run fast again, building full-body conditioning and running economy.
Find a flat, predictable surface with a clear start and finish point. A standard track is ideal, but any straightaway, loop, or measured stretch will work. Stand tall at the starting point with your feet under your hips and your arms relaxed at your sides.
Begin each interval with an easy start-up, then build to a brisk but controlled pace. Keep your posture tall, let your arms swing naturally forward and back, and land with your feet underneath your hips. Run the assigned distance, then slow to a walk or very easy jog to recover before beginning the next interval.
Breathe through your nose and mouth in a rhythm that feels sustainable; do not hold your breath or strain. For an easier option, shorten the distance of each interval or take more recovery time. For a harder option, lengthen the intervals slightly or shorten the recovery period while keeping your form clean.
Common faults & fixes
Fault: Starting every interval at an all-out sprint and fading before the finish. Fix: Build into the pace over the first few seconds and aim to finish each interval at the same speed you started, or slightly faster.
Fault: Overstriding and landing with the foot far in front of the body. Fix: Take quicker, lighter steps and focus on letting your feet land directly beneath your hips.
Fault: Tensing the shoulders, neck, or hands, which wastes energy. Fix: Keep your shoulders down, relax your hands, and let your arms swing forward and back without crossing the center of your chest.
