How to do the Farmer's Hold
The Farmer's Hold is a static hold where you stand tall and brace your body as if you are carrying a heavy load. It trains your posture, core stability, grip endurance, and overall body tension without taking a step.
Stand with your feet about hip-width apart. Let your arms hang straight down at your sides. Pull your shoulders back and down, lengthen your neck, and look straight ahead. Squeeze your glutes and brace your midsection so your ribs stay stacked over your pelvis.
Hold this position without leaning back, shrugging, or letting your hips sag forward. Keep your breathing steady and your whole body engaged from your hands through your shoulders, trunk, and legs. Stay in one place for the prescribed time, then relax with control.
Breathe normally throughout; do not hold your breath. For an easier option, shorten the hold time or reset briefly if your posture breaks. For a harder option, lift one foot slightly off the floor for a split stance, or march in place slowly while keeping your torso still.
Common faults & fixes
Fault: Leaning back or arching through the lower back. Fix: Tuck your pelvis slightly and pull your ribs down so your torso stays in a straight line.
Fault: Shrugging the shoulders toward the ears. Fix: Pull your shoulder blades back and down, creating length through your neck.
Fault: Holding the breath or breathing shallowly. Fix: Steady nose breathing with a light brace through your midsection.
