Easy Run (Zone 2) - demonstration

How to do the Easy Run (Zone 2)

The Easy Run (Zone 2) is a low-intensity, steady jog done at a conversational pace. It trains your aerobic system, builds endurance, and teaches your body to move efficiently for longer periods. This is full-body conditioning and a great base for harder running or other workouts.

Wear comfortable shoes and choose a flat, safe surface such as a track, trail, sidewalk, or treadmill. Stand tall with your feet under your hips, shoulders relaxed, and eyes looking forward. Let your arms hang naturally with your elbows bent around 90 degrees.

Start with a few minutes of easy walking to warm up. Then shift into a slow jog where you can still talk in full sentences. Keep a steady rhythm: take short, quick steps, land softly under your hips, and swing your arms forward and back without crossing your body. Hold that easy pace for the planned time, then finish with a few minutes of walking to cool down.

Breathe through both your nose and mouth in a relaxed pattern that matches your stride. Keep your core gently engaged so your posture does not collapse as you fatigue. To make it easier, slow to a brisk walk or take walk breaks as needed. To make it harder, increase the total time, shorten your walk breaks, or jog on a gentle incline.

Common faults & fixes

Fault: running too fast and getting out of breath. Fix: slow down until you can speak in full sentences; this is an easy run, not a sprint.

Fault: overstriding and landing hard with your foot far out in front of you. Fix: take shorter, quicker steps and aim to land softly under your center of mass.

Fault: tense shoulders, raised arms, or clenched fists. Fix: relax your hands, drop your shoulders, and shake out your arms every few minutes.

Fault: holding your breath or breathing in a choppy pattern. Fix: settle into a steady rhythm and focus on a full, calm exhale.
