Audio cues and choosing a natural voice
In the iPhone and Android app, audio cues read each exercise and call your rest. Download a free natural voice and pick it in Account.
In the Composite Athlete app for iPhone and Android, audio cues read your session out loud so you can keep your phone in your pocket. Your music keeps playing, just quieter while a cue speaks, and cues work without a connection.
Turn audio cues on
- On Today, tap Off next to Audio cues to switch them on.
- Tap Next to hear each exercise and its target. Repeat says it again and Previous goes back one.
- Start the Rest timer (1, 1.5, 2 or 3 min). It calls the start, the last seconds and the end of your rest.
You can also turn them on or off in Account, under Audio cues, with Speak exercises and rest cues.
Get a more natural voice on iPhone
Apple's Enhanced and Premium voices sound far more natural than the default voice. They are free downloads.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Accessibility, then Read & Speak (on iOS 18 and earlier it is called Spoken Content).
- Tap Voices, then English.
- Pick a voice marked Enhanced or Premium and tap the download button next to it.
Get a more natural voice on Android
Open Settings and search for text-to-speech. In your text-to-speech engine's settings, download more English voices.
Use the new voice in the app
- Open Account in the app and find Audio cues.
- Under Voice, leave Best on this phone to pick the best voice installed automatically, or choose one from the list.
- Tap Play a sample to hear it.
A voice you just downloaded shows in the list the next time you open Account.
