Linked Climbing Circuit - demonstration

How to do the Linked Climbing Circuit

The Linked Climbing Circuit is a continuous climbing drill where you string together a set number of moves on the wall without dropping to the ground. It trains forearm endurance, pulling stamina, and core control so you can stay on the wall longer and recover better between hard efforts.

Start at the base of the climbing wall and pick a route or sequence that feels hard but still climbable for you. Grip the starting holds with both hands, place your feet on solid footholds, and stand close to the wall with your hips over your feet and your body relaxed.

Climb through 15 to 40 linked moves in a row without stepping off the wall. Move smoothly from one hold to the next and keep three points of contact when you can. Let your feet leave the wall only to make a reach, then replace them right away. Maintain a steady rhythm and finish the full set before you rest.

Breathe steadily through each move. When you reach a secure stance, relax one arm at a time and shake it out to clear forearm pump. To make the circuit easier, use larger holds or reduce the move count. To make it harder, use smaller holds or add more linked moves.

Coaching cues

  • Link 15-40 sustained moves without stepping off
  • Climb at a sustained hard-but-doable intensity
  • Breathe and shake out at stances

Common faults & fixes

Fault: Holding your breath or tensing the shoulders. Fix: Exhale on every reach and keep your shoulders low and relaxed as you climb.

Fault: Sprinting through the first moves and burning out the forearms early. Fix: Climb at a sustained hard-but-doable pace that lets you finish the full linked sequence.

Fault: Cutting feet off the wall and hanging only by the arms. Fix: Push through your legs, keep your hips close to the wall, and replace your feet quickly after each move.
