How to do the Limit Boulder Attempts
Limit Boulder Attempts are hard bouldering attempts at or near the hardest grade you can currently finish. You work a short climbing problem that usually takes a few powerful moves to complete. This trains climbing-specific strength, finger capacity, body tension, and the ability to solve movement puzzles under pressure.
Pick a boulder problem that feels close to your limit. Stand on the starting footholds and place both hands on the starting handholds. Take a moment to look at the holds, decide your foot and hand sequence, and picture each move before you leave the ground.
Begin the climb when you are ready. Move deliberately and stay tight to the wall. Use your legs to push upward as much as possible, keep your hips close to the wall, and avoid relying only on your arms. Try to finish the problem in one continuous attempt without stepping down. If you fall, rest fully, then try again with the same plan or a small change based on what failed.
Breathe steadily during the climb. Exhale as you reach or pull through a hard move, and keep your midsection braced by gently drawing your ribs down. To make it easier, choose a slightly easier problem, use bigger holds, or practice on a less steep wall. To make it harder, try smaller holds, a steeper angle, or limit the number of attempts allowed.
Common faults & fixes
Fault: Your feet cut off the wall and you hang entirely from your arms. Fix: Drive through your legs on each move, place your feet precisely, and use your core to keep your hips close to the wall.
Fault: You grip every hold as hard as possible and your forearms burn out quickly. Fix: Use only as much grip as you need, keep your arms as straight as possible between moves, and shake out briefly when you find a good rest.
Fault: You start climbing without deciding the sequence. Fix: Read the problem from the ground, plan at least the first few moves, and identify the crux before you begin each attempt.
